Division 87 of the AOH/LAOH celebrated our motto of Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity this entire weekend. On Saturday, Division 87 sponsored a golf outing to raise money for St Anne’s CYO Football program (Charity). On Sunday, the AOH/LAOH of Division 87 celebrated Mass together for our annual Communion Breakfast (Unity) and the weekend was topped off with the Division 87 softball team winning two games against Division 17B (Friendship). All in all, it was a great weekend. The weekend started on Friday when several people, mostly from our LAOH, began preparing food for the St Anne’s CYO Football Golf Outing, to be held on Saturday. This event is sponsored by Division 87 and, as usual, many people came together to show our support for this fine program. We had golfers, course workers, photographers, cooks and bartenders, who all participated to help raise money for the Falcons of St Anne’s football. Our prayers were answered when we had the most incredibly sunny day for this outing. The golf tournament was followed by a luncheon back at our clubhouse, where food was served and prizes were awarded. Just like with any event, the members of AOH/LAOH Division 87 stepped up and did what they could for this cause. Click Here for Photos from this event. Sunday morning seemed to come a little earlier this weekend, especially after a long day of golf. But, despite the fact that there were many tired individuals, the Communion Breakfast was well attended, with nearly 100 people in attendance for the Mass, which was celebrated by Father Vince Smith. Penn Charter teacher and former Head Football Coach, Brian McCloskey, was our guest speaker. Mr McCloskey gave a very good speech, complete with PowerPoint slides, which included a photo of a very young (and svelte, I might add) Tom Healey. The breakfast was topped off with the presentation of scholarships to 6 deserving young men and women. Click Here for Photos from this event. The weekend went so well, it was only expected that the Division 87 softball team would continue with the success. After rushing home from the Communion Breakfast and getting into more casual attire, a near packed house of Div 87 supporters watched as our guys won two games against Division 17’s B team. Both games were fairly lopsided victories, so we won’t mention the score here. If you are interested in the scores, you can click on the softball schedule link at the top right of this page. Its weekends like this one where any member of our order would be proud to be associated with a great group of individuals who put the organization and those we support high on their lists of priorities. Thank you to all of the members of AOH/LAOH Division 87 – Port Richmond for giving this relatively new member a weekend to remember. |
